When does Fluency Practice first appear?
Fluency Practice is built into the student experience and appears automatically once certain conditions are met.
Fluency Practice is only available for students in Grades 1-5. Students in other grade levels will not see it.
If a student in grades 1-4 is placed in PK-K based on their Placement Test results, they will not see Fluency Practice until they reach Grade 1, Module 1, Topic D in the Happy Numbers course.
Students must meet two requirements before their first Fluency session appears:
The student has spent at least 15 minutes actively working on educational tasks
The student has completed at least two tasks
Only active time with core learning content is counted. Pauses, idle time, and time spent in Fluency Practice itself do not count toward the 15-minute requirement. If the student is still working on a task when the time is reached, the fluency session will start after that task is finished.
Once these conditions are met, the student receives their first Fluency session.
For Grades 1-2:
For Grades 3-5:
When will Fluency Practice appear again?
Once Fluency Practice is unlocked, sessions are assigned automatically and adjusted based on the student’s ongoing progress.
Fluency sessions appear every 15 minutes of curriculum work, following a consistent 15–2–15–2–15–5 pattern that supports steady progress without overload:
2 minutes after the first 15 minutes of educational tasks
another 2 minutes after the next 15 minutes
once the weekly target is met, a 5-minute fluency session is unlocked
Every Monday, the cycle starts again.
Note: Fluency Practice is an integral part of the Happy Numbers curriculum and cannot be turned off through the teacher dashboard.
