How do students access Fluency Practice?

Fluency Practice follows an individualized learning path that adjusts automatically based on each student’s placement and progress in the Happy Numbers core curriculum.

When does Fluency Practice first appear?

Fluency Practice is built into the grade K-5 student experience (not available for PreK). It appears automatically once certain conditions are met:

  1. The student has worked at least 15 minutes*
  2. The student has completed at least two tasks
  3. The student has reached Grade K, Module 4, Topic F in the Happy Numbers core curriculum (including students in grades 1-4 who were placed in PK-K based on their Placement Test results)

Once these conditions are met, the student receives the first Fluency session.

*Only active time with core learning content is counted. Pauses, idle time, and time spent in Fluency Practice itself do not count toward the 15-minute requirement. If the student is still working on a task when the time is reached, the fluency session will start after that task is finished.

When will Fluency Practice appear again?

Once Fluency Practice is unlocked, sessions are assigned automatically and adjusted based on the student’s ongoing progress.

Fluency sessions appear every 15 minutes of curriculum work, following a consistent 15–1–15–1–15–2 pattern that supports steady progress without overload:

  • 1 minute after the first 15 minutes of educational tasks
  • Another 1 minute after the next 15 minutes
  • Once the weekly target is met, a 2-minute fluency session is unlocked

Every Monday, the cycle starts again.

Note: Fluency Practice is an integral part of the Happy Numbers curriculum and cannot be turned off through the teacher dashboard.
