Access & Activation

Why doesn't my student get their first Fluency Practice?

If a student hasn’t seen their first Fluency Practice session yet, a few things could be the reason:

1. Grade level

Fluency Practice is only available for students in Grades 1-5. Students in other grade levels will not see it.

2. Placement Below Grade 1

If a student in Grades 1–4 was placed into Pre-K or Kindergarten content after the Placement Test, they’ll begin Fluency Practice once they reach Grade 1, Module 1, Topic D in their learning path.

3. Not enough activity yet

To unlock their first Fluency session, students need to:

  • Spend at least 15 minutes on educational activities

  • Complete at least 2 tasks

After meeting both conditions, the first Fluency session will appear automatically.

If your student meets all of these and still doesn’t see Fluency Practice, feel free to contact our Support Team!

Progress & Mastery

How often should my students work on Fluency Practice?

Fluency Practice is built into the student experience and happens automatically as students work through the curriculum. The timing follows a consistent rhythm designed to support steady growth without adding extra load.

Here’s how it works:

  • After every 15 minutes of curriculum work, students complete a 2-minute fluency session tailored to their current needs.

  • This pattern continues with another 15-minute learning block, followed by another 2-minute fluency round.

  • Once students hit their weekly fluency goal, they unlock a 5-minute fluency session as a bonus.

The full pattern 15–2–15–2–15–5 repeats throughout the week. Each Monday, the cycle resets, giving students a fresh start.

Will Fluency Practice block my students' progress in the main curriculum?

Fluency Practice is designed to complement the curriculum, not interrupt it.

To keep things running smoothly, we make sure fluency only starts after a student finishes their current task. So if they’re still working when it’s time for fluency, the system waits until they’re done before launching the next session.

Students still spend the majority of their time on educational tasks, with fluency woven in as short, focused practice sessions at just the right moments.

Teacher Controls & Management

Can I disable Fluency Practice for my students?

Fluency Practice is a core part of the Happy Numbers experience and can’t be turned off from the teacher dashboard.

That said, it’s designed to be light, adaptive, and aligned with each student’s learning path — so it naturally fits alongside your instruction without taking time away from core content.

If you have specific concerns or want to tailor the experience for your class, feel free to reach out to us at support@happynumbers.com. We’ll be happy to explore the available options with you.

Can I assign specific Fluency topics to my students?

No, Fluency Practice follows an individualized learning path that is automatically assigned based on:

  • Student placement in the Happy Numbers curriculum

  • Their progress through specific modules and topics

  • Their performance on Fluency facts

This ensures every learner practices at the right level of challenge and builds fluency efficiently.

Where can I see reports on my students' Fluency Practice progress?

Dedicated Fluency Reports are currently in development. Two new tools will soon help teachers track progress and support fluency growth more effectively.

  • Class Fluency Report

Provides a clear, color-coded overview of class-wide progress across the four fluency domains: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division.

At a glance, teachers will be able to:

  • Identify which students have mastered key areas.

  • Spot those still in progress or needing additional support.

  • Use visual icons to recognize milestones and intervention needs.

  • Student Fluency Report

Offers detailed, fact-level data for each student. Each domain tab will display individual math facts with clear status indicators such as Mastered, In Progress, Struggle, and Not Started — helping teachers quickly identify where support is needed.

These reports are designed to provide actionable insights and support meaningful instruction.
