Our adaptive scoring moves students through a carefully-scaffolded progression of lessons at their own pace. We determine each student’s zone of proximal development through ongoing assessment and adjust the course accordingly.

As shown below, this scoring system (in the form of green beads at the top of the screen) is very simple and visual. When a student enters a correct response to a task, one green bead moves from left to right in the counter. If a student enters an incorrect response, one bead moves from the right back to the left. The goal is to move all the beads from the left to the right to advance to the next activity. Therefore, the scoring system helps adapt the number of tasks a student must solve correctly to show mastery.

Figure 1 shows the adaptive scoring system (green beads) used to individualize the number of problems given, based on the student’s level.
