Many schools use a multi-tiered approach to support students with educational and behavioral needs. Within this approach, Happy Numbers assessment results help educators find the right support level for each student.

Tools to Determine, Monitor, and Adjust

The support level for each student isn't set once for the entire school year. Happy Numbers offers tools to determine, continuously monitor, and adjust the amount of support. These tools include three assessments conducted at different points (Placement Test, Mid-Year Test, and End-of-Year Test) as well as data collected from students' engagement with the Happy Numbers curriculum. All of this information is accessible in Happy Numbers reports.

Levels of Support

Our levels of support, also known as tiers, are as follows:

Tier 1: This level provides universal support, offering all students high-quality instruction within the general education classroom, focusing on current grade-level standards.

Tier 2: This level offers targeted interventions and additional support for students needing more assistance than Tier 1 alone. Students whose overall level on the most recent Happy Numbers assessment falls below the current grade level standards at the time of assessment may benefit from Tier 2 intervention.

Tier 3: This level offers additional assistance to students who continue to struggle despite Tier 2 support. We've identified students who not only fall below grade level but also rank among the lowest 20% in their grade, as they may benefit from this level of intervention.

Assessment Scores and Support Levels

The tables below illustrate the Happy Numbers score intervals corresponding to Tiers 1 and 2, as well as those indicating students at risk of Tier 3 intervention. The benchmarks change throughout the school year in line with the advancing math curriculum. To learn more about how to read the scores, please follow this link.

Individual tables are provided for each test, with intervals valid for the recommended test result periods:

  • The Placement Test - August to September of the current school year;

  • The Mid-Year Test - January to February of the current school year;

  • The End-of-Year Test - May to June of the current school year.
